Strawberry Fields

Last week, several of the moms who are here got together and went to a strawberry field south of Waxhaw, in Lancaster, South Carolina. My kids had never picked berries so I thought it would be a fun thing for them to do. The eldest reluctantly went as he doesn't eat strawberries (no-I don't know what's wrong with him! :)), but the girls were so excited! Especially the youngest who loves fruit with her favorite being strawberries!

The farmer gave each of the kids a bucket and I told my three to leave the green berries, only pick the red and stay out of the mud. I'm not sure why I felt the need to give the last instruction knowing how my three area drawn to dirt, but I felt it my motherly duty.

Mal, decked out in her strawberry shirt, figured out really quick that her favorite fruit was for the taking. She kept exclaiming, "My favorite! Look! Mommy! My favorite!" I was surprised, although I probably shouldn't have been, how quickly she filled her bucket! The challenge of course was keeping her from eating every berry she picked. She was a sticky mess (not muddy one!) when it was all said and done--a sign of a good time to be sure!

He made it his goal for the morning to find all the "big ones" for dad!

Sweet Mal picking her favorites!

What else to do with a gallon of berries but cover some in chocolate!
