The Other Concert

In the middle of the biennial Conference meetings comes the weekend and a much needed break. As per usual, there are two concerts during Conference time. The first weekend prior to Conference, a classical concert where super musically talented people take the stage. Then last weekend, the second weekend, “The Other Concert” where equally talented (and funny!) people take the stage in what is more of a variety show.

My friend Kelly and I were asked to emcee “The Other Concert” this year. Apparently, word got out about our performance and emceeing skills at the aviation Christmas party last year. I’m not sure what kind of word actually got out, but I’m going to say for all intents and purposes it was good. So we accepted the challenge of hosting the show.

We set the scene as if we were reporters with “video footage” (the acts) taken from our town here in PNG. Think of Kelly and I as old school SNL reporters...complete with straight faces while saying hilarious things about each act and each other. Thank goodness the house lights weren’t on us the whole time or I don’t think I could have kept the seriousness going!

Unlike the Christmas party where we have NO pictures and NO record that we even had any fun, we at least have a picture from Saturday...complete with our snazzy 80’s blazers. (Thanks UIS prop room!) And yes those ARE the awesome (cheap!) Starbucks reusuable cups courtesy of the recent  Texas trip.

Thanks PK for the photo!

To end the show, this video that shows a little taste about what life is like here for a missionary mom.

I know one day my children will be horrified that their mother tried to rap and stood on top of a vehicle yelling "Intestinal Worms!!" But, thankfully, they have their father. A stable human being who just rolls his eyes and turns the other direction. I think he's finally numb to the craziness after all these years :)

We’ve had some fun the last couple of weeks putting everything together. So thankful for the laughter and talent of this crazy bunch of people we do life with.
