Uh, okay...and the next question from me is, "Where?!"
J finds a great B&B in Beavers Bend, Oklahoma and then says we should go kayaking or "something like that".
Um...
Turns out that the water levels were too high the first day we were there so we turned to horseback riding.
Yeah, that was option 2. Don't get me wrong. I love doing different, "fun" things and at one point in my life the idea of all of those things would seem appealing, adventurous. However, aging and gaining 3 children has greatly dampened my inner, thrill seeking spirit. In fact, after this weekend, it might indeed be dead.
So we ended up on a 2 hour trail ride, out in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma, with JP...our fearless, less than stereotypical cowboy with tattoos, goatee, bald head and all. And my horse? My less than loyal new friend Road Runner.
(the back of his head...he wouldn't even look at me...)The thing is, I haven't ridden a horse since I wore pigtails. So when Road Runner decides that he's not going on the trail and turns around and walks off with me...I felt like I should have been wearing pigtails. I was a little nervous at the way my afternoon was shaping up.
Finally Road Runner gets behind JP and in front of Too Tall and Jason and we're fine, at least for a little while. But dear Road Runner decides that every now and again, he needs a snack. So he s.t.o.p.s. He won't "giddy up" and go! We stopped in the middle of a creek. We stopped in the middle of the trail to what? Take in scenery? GO YOU HORSE!! UGH!
JP keeps telling me to "show him who's boss". Well, unless I can sit you in time out or get a wooden spoon on your bottom, I'm not sure how to show you I'm boss. Even then, I'm not sure how much of the *boss* I really am!! And I'm guessing my Levi's and New Balance shoes didn't really evoke a "cowgirl" feel so RR thought he could do what he wanted.
Well, Road Runner's "giddy up" starts working and he decides to RUN up HILL!!!!! Who in their right mind runs UP hills?!? I don't care if you ARE a horse, I'm on your back and you really don't need to run up the hill for my benefit thank you very much!
I'm holding on for dear life and guess who's laughing behind me...yeah, the guy who orchestrated this whole weekend. How can I ever thank him enough?
(the only shot I could get of J on the trail since I'm getting bounced around so much!)
I do have to say the ride was beautiful, what I could see of it. Given a few more hours with Road Runner, I think he and I would have gained a mutual understanding...maybe. I doubt we'll ever find out...
LOL! I love it! I have never rode a horse before, and given my current size am not about to hop on one anytime soon. I do believe that would fall in the category of "animal cruelty." Glad you guys got away!
