Last night at our monthly mom's meeting at church, the theme was "Counting Your Blessings". What a night of being grateful for the big things and the not so big things that happen in our lives.
This last year, we have been overwhelmed by the blessings we've encountered. Some of the blessings came through trials, but as we talked about last night, sometimes that's how the blessings come alive. I could fill up pages and pages of ways we've been blessed...it's overwhelming, humbling and yeah, I pretty much want to cry (and have cried!) when I think about it.
I shared a story last night of a huge blessing that just happened with our Partnership Development (PD) If you were there, sorry...you're hearing it twice!
Wednesday a huge line of thunderstorms made its way through the DFW area. Jason was at the airport and at least one of his flights was cancelled. He called saying he would be sitting for several hours, waiting on the line of storms to pass so he could get to the next flight and he'd call me later. I didn't think much of it, but I hadn't heard from him in awhile. Usually, while he waits, he's calling frequently because he's "bored" and wants to see what exciting things are happening on the home front....like what fights I've refereed recently, who's been sitting in time out, these kind of things. So right before his next flight was about to leave, he called and said, "You're never going to believe what just happened."
He said he was sitting by one of the gates, reading, and a man, a fellow pilot, we'll call him Mr. P, sits down next to him. Mr. P notices J's Wycliffe lanyard (that he bought while we were in Orlando-thought it'd be a good conversation starter) and says, "Wycliffe? As in Wycliffe Bible Translators?"
Jason says, "Yes. My wife and I are new members..." yadda-yadda-yadda (you know this part of the story so we'll skip it!)
An hour has now passed and during the conversation it turns out that Mr. P was a JAARS pilot back in the 70's! He and his wife lived in Cameroon, West Africa for several years. But now Mr. P needs to catch his next flight so he and J exchange contact information. Before he leaves he tells Jason that he and his wife want to support us financially.
Say what?!? (I've pretty sure I stopped breathing at this point while I'm listening on the other end of the line)
Jason said, "Wow, that would be great, but we just met. You don't even know me." He said, "I know the kind of people Wycliffe require, so I know the kind of person you are." And a little less than 20 minutes later, Mr. P, a man of his word, signed up online and he and his wife are now a part of our team.
Yeah, say it with me, WOW!
I am in awe of God's orchestration of a perfect stranger, in the midst of a literal storm, who is now a friend, helping us get to the field and further spread the Word of God to the Bibleless people in Papua New Guinea.
Thank you Lord for the storms.
