U {Ukarumpa}

Ukarumpa, located in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea, will be our "home sweet home" after we spend 14 weeks at POC. And no, the Oopa Loompas from Willie Wonka's Chocolate Factory do not live there (seriously-people say that ALL the time!)

Ukarumpa was founded in the mid-1950's by Wycliffe and serves as the base for translators, support staff (that's us!), linguistics personnel...anyone who has anything to with Bible Translation in that particular part of the area.

The airport is there, which will serve as the 'hub' for the pilots flying in and out of surrounding villages. We understand there is a small store, post office, clinic and the school is on the premises. There will be a fresh market available 3 to 4 times a week that we'll be frequenting as the cost of canned goods is very high. And because of the tropical climate, strawberries are grown year round (yay!!)

An aerial shot of Ukarumpa...

The red arrow shows where Ukarumpa is located in the country...
There will be lots of walking as everything we "need" is centrally located, although, the airport is a bit further from where the homes are. Jason will need to find a motorcycle when we get there...he's excited...D's excited. We'll see how long the excitement lasts the first time it rains and the dirt roads become mud!
