So here's the scoop...
When we became members of Wycliffe in January 2011, our personnel administrator put August 2012 as our departure date (falling in line with raising support, orientation, ICC etc.). As you know, we have been working toward that goal ever since. When we arrived here to Waxhaw, we weren't sure if the Lord would see fit to bring everything together to meet that date or not. Many of you have been praying along side of us as we sought to seek God’s direction in this matter. We've prayed, emailed many, snail mailed several and then prayed some more.
The last week of April, Jason got an email from the training department in PNG (along with discussions here in the aviation office) that he would need to attend specialized training for the Quest Kodiak aircraft. This is the airplane he will be flying in PNG. JAARS does not have a Kodiak here in the training department because those that are purchased are all on the field where they are needed most---serving the needs of Bible translation.
To offer this specific Kodiak training, JAARS uses an outside training partner called the Spokane Turbine Center in Spokane, WA. This company specializes in training mission pilots in technically advanced aircraft. Due to their schedule, the only training slot (yes, one!) is in September. (Thank you Lord for the spot now with Jason's name on it!!) So because of this training schedule, we have moved our departure date to January of 2013 when the next Pacific Orientation Course is offered.
We are confident that this is a direct answer to many prayers (yours and ours!) and the direction the Lord is leading us at this time. Of course, we're disappointed a bit because we really want to be in PNG where we know the Lord has called us. And I know we will get there...in His timing--not necessarily what's written on paper!
But...
There are so many reasons to be excited for another 6 months at "home". Being here for 5 (almost 6) months has made us appreciate that fact even more. We'll have more time with family, friends, our home church, more time to tell more people about reaching the Bibleless in PNG, OshKosh in July (we'll be at the JAARS booth!!), we'll welcome another nephew on the Brewer side in August (yay!!), another football season, Whataburger (input from my children), another round of holidays...I could go on!
Regardless of another 6 months...another year...whatever the time frame...things will be good because God is still in control and His timing is always perfect.
