A Smelly Situation

We've had a busy week...seeing family, our friends, getting settled into the lake house that will be "home" the next six months. We're impatiently patiently waiting to get connected online...hopefully by the end of today.

But how are you writing this morning?

I'm so glad you asked...

Yesterday, hubs, son and father-in-law were gone...loading up a dresser and my our bed that we moved from our old house, into the in-laws house. The in-laws old bed was moved to the lake to make room for ours at their house and while it is perfectly "sleepable", my husband and in-laws knew how wonderful it would be for me to have MY bed the next six months. (Yes, I am well loved!)

The guys arrive at the lake and the great bed swap was taking place. I had been washing comforters and pillows-hanging them in the very warm, very muggy breeze to eventually dry. Things were going well. We're outside, the guys about to leave, when my eldest mentions that something is "wrong". He points, we look and the outlet to the septic is flooding the front yard.

Yikes! (my first response)

Oh...yuck! (Second response with crinkled nose)

I walked into the bathroom and found water...on the floor...and in the bedroom where the kids are staying. Thankfully, nothing too bad, but still...water sightings on the floor IN the house are never, ever good.

Of course with three problem solving males, ages 8 to late 50's, the theories to WHY this happened abound. My deduction of their conversation:

A. The septic tank hasn't been used this much in a VERY long time. Therefore, sediment (use your imagination on what that might entail) has settled and clogged the tank.

B. Tree roots have damaged the line in some way. There are huge trees all over the property that have been around longer than any of us.

C. The septic tank is so small it just can't function with five people living there full-time.

I'm hoping it's more around answer 'A' and can be easily fixed!

*For the record, it's never a good sign when you call the septic "expert" and he says, "Oooohhh...that's really bad."*

So as fast as the sheets made their way on my our bed, we were packing up and heading back to Papaw and Nana's...sleeping on the bed I had just said farewell to a few hours before!

The irony of the whole situation makes me laugh...the bed swap...the fact that we're trying to unpack and get settled...only to live out of suitcases again! But I'm very thankful...for a situation that is minor compared to what it could be, for in-laws who will take us in at the drop of a hat, for internet and a bed to sleep in-haha!
