Still Learning

Waiting months for my pineapple to grow...
I tend not to be a patient person. Now, wouldn’t you know, I’m tested daily on the patience front. From waiting on laundry to dry, to waiting on veggies to soak in bleach water, or waiting on the dough to rise, waiting for my kids to get their act together or filtering water again for the fourth time that day, I’m waiting on something or someone constantly it seems. Not to mention waiting on answers to the bigger decisions that can’t be rushed, one of which I’m facing now. There are some things in life that require a more thoughtful, prayerful approach and yes, waiting for an answer to move forward.

Clearly I’m continuing to be stretched when it comes to my patience level.

Even after 20+ years of walking with Him, I still find that waiting on His answer is hard. I want immediate answers to my questions and quick fixes to mend what’s broken. Wouldn’t it be great to ask the question, get His immediate answer as quick as a text, say thank you and move on with the rest of the day?

But as I prayed and searched out scripture on waiting I came across Psalm 27:14 :

“Wait on the Lord. Be of good courage and He will strengthen your heart. Wait I say on the Lord.”

One explanation I read of this verse said, "To wait on the Lord is to demonstrate a confident expectation.”

Doesn’t confident expectation sound much better than just waiting?

When I hear the word “waiting” my insides tense and I automatically become impatient and antsy. Confident expectation makes me want to stand a little taller, hold my head a little higher. With confident expectation I’m anticipating His answer (whatever it may be) in His perfect time, not necessarily mine. And don’t miss out on this part...He will strengthen your heart through the process of waiting. Do I really want to miss out on what He’s got in store for me because I’m too impatient to wait?

So today, if you’re like me and still practicing patience, still waiting on answers or direction for the days ahead, don’t lose heart! Keep praying, keep reading His Word and let confident expectation change your point of view.
