Father/Son Adventure

A couple of weeks ago, Jason had the opportunity to take D to work with him. Normally, we are pretty strict when it comes to going to school i.e. you better have a fever and bowing to the porcelain pony. But knowing that these opportunities are rare combined with the fact that next year D will be in Middle school and missing a day means a possible deduction of your grades, well, we relented.

Maybe for the first time ever in his almost 12 years we were *cool*.

The guys flew all the way out to Mal Island which in itself isn’t a place our pilots fly very often so an extra special treat for D. They then flew to Wewak and “just had to kill time” by eating at a restaurant, in which he took great joy rubbing it in to me at dinner that night. Then they went to Goroka and finally back here. They had a very full, but super fun father/son day.

D took over 200 pictures (he IS my son!) and these are just a few to summarize their day...

LOVE this selfie he took of them!

Can you spot the airstrip?
In most areas here in PNG, an airplane coming in is a BIG deal. Usually there is a crowd to watch the plane land. This day was no different. As they were coming in for a landing, D looks down and takes a picture of people on the ground. If you can see it, there is someone in the far left corner taking a picture of the plane. Love it!
The "outhouses" that sit out over the ocean. Let's just say that Jason said the tide needed to roll in...

D said he took a picture of the turquoise water just for me

I'm so thankful these two had such a great day together. The love for aviation was already alive and well within D but this day pretty much sealed the deal for him...at least right now. We'll see what the Lord does over the next few years, but for now, it's exciting to see his love for mission aviation grow.
