Five Week Break

Next week the kids go back to school. Can I give three cheers for year round school?!

This five week break was a new concept for us and in a new place with little access to "go" anywhere, the challenge was trying to figure out what we could do for five weeks.

The first week...I enlisted their help in tearing wallpaper off the bathroom walls. When it's falling off on it's own, it can be rather easy.

Within two hours, the bathroom was done

Do I have a plan on what I'm going to do with this bathroom? No.

Do I have paint? Uh...no.

I guess until I figure that out, we'll deal with bare walls.

And I'm becoming okay with that.

Another confusing part of this break was what to call it?

Is it summer break because it's technically winter here? If I'm making a fire in July, then it's defitnitely winter in my book, but the kids are in between school years...my Texas brain is trying to get used to this new "normal".

One Saturday, sans kids, I went shopping with some friends in the nearest "big" town. I stocked up on things we couldn't find at the store here, plus got in some second hand shopping. We also stopped at the outdoor market...

Adult conversation and shopping...never a bad combo in any country!

One of the highlights of our five weeks??

A WATERSLIDE!!!

Now, don’t think Hurricane Harbor has hit the Pacific, but a homemade water slide is a pretty cool thing when you’re nestled in a valley in the Highlands!

My husband is in there somewhere!
Daddy helped her...the water was COLD!!
Then brother offered to go down with her...but small detail...he let go of her right after I took this picture!!
She was NOT happy with her brother!!
Mo wasn't real thrilled about the slide, so of course, her hero slid down with her...
Her face!!!!
And speaking of faces...this kid was in and out the entire time!!

We've also had play dates, lunch dates and plenty of walks around our little world here. Soon this break will be over and I'll have a 4th grader, a 1st grader and an official preschooler!
