A few weeks ago my pilot was trimming this tree in our front yard:
A branch came towards his head and he blocked it with his hand.
Unfortunately, he now has a broken thumb and a torn ligament...and the classy blue cast (that the girls are begging to draw on) for another month. And...no flying for the one arm bandit. Thankfully though, there is so much other work that needs to be done out at the airport that it’s almost a blessing he’s able to have time focusing on those projects that would have been put off another month or longer.
Monday night a 5.4 magnitude earthquake hit right before midnight. While the earthquake itself isn’t that big, the fact that the epicenter was only 30 miles from here made it seem much larger than we’ve ever felt. The pictures on the walls were having a little crooked after that!

Term break is officially here. We have about a month before school starts. With limited places to go or things to do this means lots of outdoor time, playdates and sleepovers not to mention the need for lots of coffee for all the mothers here. I think I need a shirt to wear during term breaks that reads “I am NOT your entertainment coordinator”. Then when asked by my precious three “What are we going to do today?...I’m BORED” I can just point to the shirt. Not effective for the youngest, but for the two other young readers in the family, I imagine eye rolling and sighing :) I love motherhood.
The “see ya laters” continue this week. Three of D’s friends have left “finish” meaning they are not returning to PNG. Others will be gone for a year or so on furlough. We’ve tried to say goodbye well, including many trips to the airstrip to wave our friends off. I haven’t been very emotional, but lost it Sunday when the mother of one of D’s good friends hugged me, bawling. Well, that’s all I needed and the floodgates opened.

On the opposite spectrum, friends from the US are here with a team of students! We met Doug & Nancy at JAARS in 2012. They have brought a team of students here to take a look at life in PNG and the work of Bible translation. SO great to catch up with them on this side of the world!
