We just got back from a weekend trip to the port city of Lae with a group of friends. It's a three to four hour drive from here depending on the road conditions.
And this is where I insert (again on this blog!) that I will never
ever take a US road trip for granted again. Paved roads, Starbucks, rest areas....bliss!
And this is also where I tell you that pothole filled roads, coffee and no rest areas do not equal as much bliss.

Too much coffee can be a bad thing! |
Besides learning more about my aging bladder, I have come to realize that trips in country are pretty great from a packing standpoint. Because of cultural appropriateness all of my outfits look the same and I wear the same all terrain shoe everywhere. Jewelry is out of the question...to much bling isn't a great option here and it's so muggy anywhere you go on the coast that makeup just runs off your face. I end up packing pretty light with minimal fuss and secretly? I kinda like it.
I'm thankful for the chance to get away from the daily routine and eat at restaurants...a rare treat as they are non-exsistent in our neck of the woods. Plus the shopping is pretty terrific!

A sign we're getting closer to the coast...coconut trees! |
|
My shopping partner in crime...she loved the small cart! |

The swimming pool is such a treat for them. |

A thermos full of steamed rice at the Chinese restaurant. |

It's a good thing we don't eat like this everyday!! (Yes...it was DELISH!) |
|
Find of the weekend! I'll let you guess how excited I was :) |

Love him...he's growing up way too fast! |
After a fun weekend, we're back at it and looking at less than 2 weeks before school starts! The annual first day picture is coming soon :)
