Entreprenurial Enterprises

In our community it's not easy being a tween/teen looking for work. We have one store run by ex-pats and nationals. The only thing remotely close to a restaurant is hamburger night at the Teen Center. And even then, they only host a handful of hamburger nights per term. (I've heard there's even an interview process prepping teens for "the real world"!)

There are babysitting opportunities, but really, there are only so many kids that need to be looked after on any given night.

The plus side of this community is that we like our food. Several creative teens have come up with job opportunities in the food world.

Last year we experienced "Uka Ice". A group of senior guys made and sold liters of ice cream in a variety of flavors. I think they had been together since their freshman year with this ice cream operation. Sadly, they graduated and no one wanted to take on the responsibility of providing REAL ice cream to the community.

Andy's ice pops were a nice sweet treat. He had a mocha flavor that was my favorite.

This year there's the pizza guy who will spend some of his weekends selling homemade pizzas. We haven't tried them...yet.

Also new on the scene: Davids Donuts. Any ninth grader that will sacrifice his Saturday morning making a Krispy Kreme equivalent AND delivering them warm to my door by 9 a.m. gets my attention.

Our own budding entrepreneur has found his niche delivering tortillas that our PNG friend makes every week at our house. It's a win win for everyone.
Our friends left a bike for D to use on their furlough. He's grateful for a set of delivery wheels.
