Calling In Sick

I’ve started March with some sort of crazy virus. And while I haven’t wasted precious internet time on WebMD to diagnose my illness, I will say that I haven’t felt this bad in a very long time.

After referring to my Where There is No Doctor book, I’ve diagnosed myself with all sorts of jungle illnesses. Thanks to the book,  I also did a read up on how to deliver a baby. This served as a reminder of just how thankful I am for hospitals, nurses and doctors.

But I digress and clearly have too much time on my hands. (Hmmm...should I add “inability to focus” to my list of symptoms??)

Jason was gone for 2 1/2 days and came home to find me laid up in bed--his first indication that there was truly a problem. Mom is never down at least not for long. He kicked in to Mr. Mom mode and the kids willingly participated in the game.

Some observations from my “down time” or “mini-vacay” as I'd like to refer to it. Although, I prefer fever free vacays, but I'll take what I can get.

-Dinner was made and cleaned up...all in the same night. They clearly like Mr. Mom mode.

-Walkie-talkie communication was a must with my oldest. He was avoiding my germs like a plague. Oh...maybe I should add “plague” to my list of possible illnesses??

-The girls are natural born care givers. From patting my arm repeatedly to suggesting I add honey to my tea to help my throat, they wasted no time jumping into “Mom” mode with a list of recommended home remedies. Can you tell we don’t have a 24 hour pharmacy nearby?

-Our movie selection is not “mom-is-calling-in-sick” friendly. We have animated flicks...we have James Bond...and...that’s it. On days like today, I’ve decided I really do miss food channels and home improvement shows and yes, even commercials. So I opted for a QUIET house and that worked out better than I expected.

-Toast that someone else makes for you always tastes better.

Under such good care and food, I’m wondering how long I can keep this gig up? Probably only until someone needs a clean pair of underwear and then I’m back in business.

It’s good to have job security.

  1. Three things:
    1) Self-diagnosing from that book could make you a hypochondriac. :) Especially here.
    2) Sorry you're still sick.
    3) Call if you want to borrow other movies.
