JAARS Day {Part 1}

Saturday was JAARS Day. This event is held four times a year and we have the opportunity to be a part of not one, but two JAARS Days during our time here! This is really an "open house" of sorts as it gives visitors an idea of the role JAARS plays in Bible translation from aviation to information technology.

If you're in the area or looking for a summer vacay idea, the next JAARS Day is June 9th. (I even know of a place you could stay for a few days with some really fun people and decent food!)

We spent most of our day here...I know that's surprising...

Several informational booths were set up in the hangar...

This is the Helio Courier. This is one of the two planes that Jason will be flying during his training the next couple of months. These planes are known for their abilities in short take offs and landings. Think side of a mountain with only a few hundred feet to land or take off...

We had clear blue skies Saturday...perfect for flying!

Helicopters play a huge role in Bible translation as well. More on that as your truly went on her first helicopter ride on Saturday!

The three amigos watching the demos...

We were leaving the hangar and this cracked me up as I'm easily amused. Hubs then explains if you don't close out your flight plan then people start wondering where you are and did you make it to your destination or did you fall off the grid (my words not his!) So...yes...that might be a problem and a good reminder at the gate on your way out!

The airport...Townsend Field...named after Wycliffe Bible Translator founder, Cameron Townsend.

We had a great day and it made me so excited to be a part of this organization and even more excited to get to PNG!
